L'insertion de l'islam en Belgique est un fait relativement ancien. En effet, près de soixante ans se sont écoulés entre les premières vagues migratoires essentiellement issues du Maroc et de la Turquie et l'entrée à l'école de la quatrième génération de Belges musulmans. Cependant, les attentats revendiqués par l'Etat islamique de mars 2016 ont réveillé, une fois de plus, les questionnements relatifs à la compatibilité de l'islam avec les "valeurs" belges et plus généralement européennes. Plus que jamais, l'amalgame entre l'islamisme radical qui produit ces violences et l'islam tel qu'il est majoritairement vécu et pratiqué dans nos sociétés est présent dans les consciences collectives. Tel est le constat qui a guidé l'écriture de ce livre, qui a pour objectif de mettre en exergue les principaux développements et enjeux relatifs à l'insertion de l'islam en Europe en s'appuyant sur le cas de la Belgique.

On the heels of an extremely lively U.S. presidential election campaign, this book examines the unusually serene relationship between the chief global superpower and the world's most ancient and renowned institution. The "Catholicization" of the United States is a recent phenomenon: some believe it began during the Reagan administration; others feel it emerged under George W. Bush's presidency. What is certain is that the Catholic presence in the American political ruling class was particularly prominent in the Obama administration: over one-third of cabinet members, the Vice President, the White House Chief of Staff, the heads of Homeland Security and the CIA, the director and deputy director of the FBI, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and other top military officers were all Roman Catholic. Student Revolt in 1968 examines the origins, course and dissolution of student protest at three universities in the 1960s - the Freie Universität Berlin in West Germany, the campus of Nanterre in France, and the Faculty of Sociology at Trento in Italy. It traces how student revolts over space, speech, sociology and cultural democratisation catalysed a dynamic protest movement within universities in the mid-1960s that expanded dramatically beyond the University in 1968. Differing visions of democratisation - mass access to education, the dissolution of high culture, the democratic control of the university - clashed and competed in a radical revaluation of the meaning of university education and democratic culture. The study also evaluates the most ambitious experiments in higher education in the 1960s - the 'Critical Universities' of West Berlin and Trento - which sought to establish democratic control of higher education before dissolving in the politics of social revolution, and offers a new and clear-sighted perspective on the 1960s
